In today’s post, I’m sharing all about The Russell, a newly renovated boutique hotel where I stayed during my recent trip to Nashville, Tennessee with my blogger friend Brittany Courtney.
THE RUSSELL
Built in 1904, the building now known as The Russell has been through many changes. It started as a Presbyterian Church, then became a Church of Christ, a makeshift hospital, a clinic, a daycare, and now, a boutique hotel. The Russell is unlike anywhere I have ever stayed, and I think from the photos below, you’ll see why it’s often called “the coolest boutique hotel in Nashville.”
OUR ROOM
Our room was huge! There was plenty of space for both of us (and all our luggage ;)). We stayed in Room 2:6, a double queen + twin sleeper sofa room. The pink walls and cute red bathroom won me over immediately. Britt and I loved all the unique touches like the headboards made from the church’s original pews, a goodie basket with local snacks, and a visitor’s guidebook that was filled with recommendations for local restaurants, nightlife, and more.

THE LOBBY
Let’s start with the stained glass windows… just wow. I couldn’t stop taking photos of them every time I was in the lobby. They are truly breathtaking. The retro decor gives such a cool, 70’s vibe that totally flows with The Russell’s East Nashville location.
At The Russell, there are no elevators, but there is a working dumbwaiter for your luggage. The lobby also boasts a podcast studio, luggage lockers to store your things if you arrive before check-in, a fun photo both, and a fully stocked coffee station.
There are no staff for you to check-in/out with. Instead, at The Russell, you are given a unique key code to access the building and another to access your room.
GIVING BACK
The greatest thing that makes The Russell so unique is their commitment to East Nashville. For every night spent at The Russell, a percentage is given to local nonprofits to support those experiencing homelessness in the area. The Russell’s website states that the average weekend stay provides one of the following options:
-
16 nights in a bed
-
100 free showers
-
30 free meals
We really loved the convenience of only needing a key code, the trendy East Nashville location, and the gorgeous decor. Talk about a blogger’s dream hotel! 😉 I can’t wait to head back to Nashville with Adam and stay at The Russell again.
