You may not know this about me, but I’m a total book worm. During the school year, I don’t have a lot of time to enjoy reading, but during the Summer, it is game on! I’ll devour 2-4 books a week and always be on the lookout for my next read. I’ve never shared a book post, but after overwhelming results on a recent Instagram poll, I decided to share some of “Recent Reads” with all of you.

RECENT READS – MY TOP PICKS
Of all my recent reads, this book is by far my favorite. It’s very different from anything else I’ve read. The main character is snarky and at times you think she’s horrible, but then a few pages later, you’re rooting for her. You spend much of the book waiting to find out exactly what happened, and when you do, it’s shocking and graphic, but the book touches on so many important topics. I couldn’t put this one down and read it in 2 days. *Side note – I loved the 2000s pop culture/fashion references!
All the Missing Girls
I read this book at the beach last Summer, so technically, it doesn’t fall under “recent reads.” But, I wanted to include it because so many people are just discovering it. It’s a page turner in that, again, you’re trying to figure out what happened. It also has an ending that you’ll never see coming!
The Killing Hour
This book reminded me a lot of the first season of Quantico, which I loved! Part of it takes place at Quantico, where a new agent stumbles across a dead body. She joins the hunt for a serial killer who likes to leave clues on his victims. It was a great read, and while a tiny bit graphic at times, not too bad for thriller newbies.
This book gave me “Girl on the Train/Gone Girl” vibes. It was different, and twisty, and you constantly second guess yourself. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the ending, but overall, I really enjoyed this book because it was so different.
NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART
So, I’m a big Karin Slaughter fan, but like I stated in the heading, her books are definitely not for the faint of heart. They are usually very dark and graphic. But, with that being said, I loved this book. It horrified me, pulled on my heartstrings, and left me aching for the characters. You know it was a good book when you’re not ready to say goodbye.
If we’re talking about dark, this book is at the top of the list. I’m not sure if I would recommend it just because it was sooo graphic, disturbing, and left me with nightmares. But, once I started, I couldn’t put it down.
So, this was not my favorite Karin Slaughter book. If you’re looking for one to start, I wouldn’t suggest this one. It’s part of the Will Trent series, so if you’ve been reading the series, this does tie up a lot of loose ends from the previous book. But, it’s not really a good standalone read.
CHICK LIT
As a Nicholas Sparks fan, this book is a little different from his previous bestsellers, yet still had many similarities. While I felt that it dragged at times, overall I enjoyed this book. It was sweet and endearing and, of course, a tearjerker.
So I’ve always always loved anything by Nora Roberts. Her characters are usually so developed that you feel as though you actually know them. This book wasn’t necessarily that way, as it’s very fast paced and there’s no murder or crime involved. It’s strictly a fast paced romance (I finished it in a day). But sometimes I just need something quick & sweet after so many crime/thriller books.
This is a typical Nora Roberts read, which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you like Nora Roberts, you’ll love this one. It’s set in Montana and full of cowboys, crime, and romance. I quickly fell in love with these characters and didn’t want it to end.
RANDOM READS
I picked this up awhile back while browsing around in Target. It’s a great read for fashion bloggers + it looks super cute in photographs. 😉
I had high hopes for this book, but for me, it just didn’t deliver. A young girl goes missing and her father fights for years to bring her home. She is finally found alive, yet has no desire to share any answers about where she’s been. There were parts where I was drawn in, but overall, it wasn’t my favorite read. When I got to the end I found myself saying, “Seriously?!”
NEXT ON MY LIST
Into the Water
I’ve heard great things about this book and actually have it sitting beside me right now. I haven’t started it yet, but will report back after I finish.
The Couple Next Door
I almost bought this when bought “Lie to Me” but hadn’t heard of the author and wasn’t sure if I would like it. Since then, I’ve seen mixed reviews so now my curiosity is piqued. Has anyone read it? Thoughts?
As soon as I finished “Luckiest Girl Alive” I looked to see what other books the author had written. This was just released in May, and focuses on two sisters who join a reality TV series. I’m in. And, if that wasn’t enough, Andy Cohen said that if you’re a Housewives fan, you’ll love it. Totally in. I can’t wait to get my hands on this!
What are your recent reads? Any recommendations?
The couple next door is awesome!! You will love it!!
