HOW TO: TRANSFORM AN IRON PLANT STAND

As you know, we have been in full-on planning mode for McKenna’s 1st birthday. We are doing a floral theme, and I have had party details and florals on my mind for months. I originally planned for today’s post to be all about incorporating Summer florals into your home. However, when I visited my local Old Time Pottery and was perusing their large selection of flowers, inspiration hit! I saw an iron plant stand that I could transform into the perfect party favor holder. So I’m teaming up with Old Time Pottery to transform an iron plant stand into a floral party favor holder!

I have been compensated by Old Time Pottery for this post, however all opinions are 100% my own.

BEFORE & AFTER

HOW TO: TRANSFORM AN IRON PLANT STAND

Visit your local Old Time Pottery: Anytime we have a project/party/event coming up, we head to Old Time Pottery. If you are looking for planters, plant stands, or Summer florals, you should check out your local Old Time Pottery. They always have a huge selection of seasonal flowers and their Summer floral selection is always my favorite!

Pick out an iron plant stand: Old Time Pottery has so many to pick from. When selecting your iron plant stand, think about how you will later use it. Yes, we wanted it indoors for McKenna’s birthday party, but ultimately, it will go outdoors. So we selected a white one that would match our outdoor decor.

Select your florals: If you’re planning to create something similar, you’ll want to select flowers that come in a bundle, a few greenery accents, and a few single flower accents. It was hard to choose from all of the gorgeous Summer florals at Old Time Pottery! In the end, I chose florals that matched the party theme, and also went with our home decor for later repurposing.

Cut stems/place florals: I started out cutting the hot pink flowers and trying to wrap them around the iron piece by piece. This was VERY time consuming, so I quickly nixed that idea. Instead, I took the large bundles of the hot pink flowers and just tucked them into the iron work (middle photo). Then I added the green stems, also just by tucking them into the open spaces. I made sure to use a lot of the hot pink florals because the tighter/more full the iron work was, the more secure the flowers were. Finally, because the peach floral stems were so long, I cut the stems (right photo) and just tucked the peach flowers in as accent pieces.

Fill with party favors: Since the stems are visible on the inside, I’m planning to add tissue paper to fill the bottom of the iron plant stand. Then I will place the party favors on top.

Repurpose the stand + flowers: Once the party is over, I will remove the flowers and place them in vases. For the iron plant stand, it will go on our patio to be filled with live plants.

Is this something you would try? Let me know in the comments section. Until next time…
