Today I’m teaming up with Old Time Pottery to share how to deco mesh your Christmas tree. I love using deco mesh to decorate our Christmas trees, and today I’m sharing how easy it is to do it yourself!
I have been compensated by Old Time Pottery for this post, however all opinions are 100% my own.
A MAGAZINE-WORTHY CHRISTMAS TREE
Deco mesh is such an easy and affordable way to make a big impact on your Christmas tree. Deco mesh is especially great for decorating tall Christmas trees. Instead of spending a lot of money on ornaments, you can use deco mesh to cover most of the tree. Then, add a few ornaments and you’ll have a tree that looks full and magazine-worthy! Keep reading for a tutorial of how to deco mesh your Christmas tree.
We got this 9ft pre-lit, flocked Christmas tree from Old Time Pottery this year, and honestly, it was beautiful without any decorations. The flocking made minimal mess and the tree is so full! Here is the link to our exact tree. But of course, I love decorating trees, so I had to add deco mesh and ornaments! 🙂 Everything is from Old Time Pottery. I linked what I could find online, but we purchased everything in-store.
HOW TO DECO MESH YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE
- Start at the top of the tree, on the back side. You’ll unroll the deco mesh, and fold the end of the mesh into one of the tree branches. As you can see below, I just gather the mesh and then fold a tree branch up to secure it.
2. Continue to wrap the deco mesh around the tree and periodically gather the mesh and secure it in a branch. I like to go a little lower with the mesh each time I make it back to the front of the tree so that it spirals from top to bottom.
3. An important thing to note is that you want to alternate where you are gathering/securing the mesh. When I first started using deco mesh, I found myself gathering it in the same spot every time. This caused all the gathers to line up and make the tree look funny. Instead, it looks better when you alternate the gathered spaces like you see below. On the top piece, you see the big stretch of deco mesh. On the bottom piece, you see the gathered spot hits almost right in the middle of the top stretch of mesh.
4. When you’re finished, just add ornaments in all the free spaces. We found so many cute ornaments at Old Time Pottery. We used these and these on this tree, plus more that we found in-store.
Do you have your tree up yet? Let me know if you try the deco mesh trick!
How much mesh do you need?

For our 9ft trees, I usually use 2 rolls. 🙂
Hi! What width of mesh ribbon did you use? 10″ or 21″?
Author
I always use the 10″. 🙂
