If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that last weekend Adam and I traveled to Banning Mills in Banning, Georgia. Banning Mills invited us to stay the weekend and try their zip line tour. We received free accommodations/food/zip lining in exchange for a review, however all opinions are 100% my own. We had the absolute best time and I have been so excited to share this post with all of you!
This is the lodge where you check in, meet for your tours, and dine. The next shots are of our room. We stayed in one of the creekside overlook rooms. Banning Mills also has tree houses that you can stay in. They were booked for the weekend we were there, but they looked awesome!
Accomodations
We drove there on Friday evening after work, so we didn’t do much the night we arrived. However, the next morning, we ate breakfast in the lodge. Banning Mills has a complimentary buffet breakfast for all overnight guests. There were biscuits, sausage, bacon, eggs, fruit, yogurt, and coffee. It was very good! ZIP LINING / NATURE TRAILS
After breakfast, we met with our tour guides for our zip line adventure! Adam and I had never been zip lining, so we were quite sure what to expect. As you can see from the first picture, I was very nervous at first. But after I went down the first zip line, I LOVED it! It was so much fun and I was actually surprised at how secure I felt in the harness. I absolutely loved that our guides took photos for us during the trip. I was nervous to bring my phone because I just didn’t know what to expect (some people did, but I’m glad I didn’t). It was awesome that they take photos because it just allows you to enjoy the moment, but still have the moment captured. Banning Mills sent the photos to our email that afternoon.
So I also have to add that we were scheduled to do a Level 4 zip line course. I love love loved Level 1, but I have an unnatural fear of bridges. There was one bridge like the one Adam is standing on in the picture above in Level 1 and I was having major anxiety the whole time I was walking across it. I can zip through the air on a cable, but put me on a wobbly bridge and I freak out. Ha!
After Level 1, our guides were telling us that there were about 10 bridges in Level 2 (it’s kind of like an aerial obstacle course), and I panicked just thinking about it.
In the background of the photo with Adam on the bridge, you’ll see another girl walking across one of the “bridges” that is actually just a cable. I knew I would never make it. I pictured me having either a full blown crying meltdown, or falling off, not being able to pull myself back up, and becoming the subject of a rescue mission. LOL So, I dropped off after Level 1 and went back to the room to upload some videos to my InstaStories.
Adam continued, and when he got back said, “Yeah, you would freaked out… but it was awesome!” haha So I felt like I made a good choice for me. I really did love Level 1 and would zip line again in a heart beat! Btw, Level 4 had the Screaming Eagle zip line which is over a half mile long and certified by Guinness Book of World Records as the longest zip line canopy tour!!! Adam loved it!
All of my InstaStories from the trip are saved to my Travel highlights if you want to see more of Banning Mills.
After Adam got back from zip lining, we did a little hiking on some of their nature trails. Banning Mills has zip lining, nature trails, a pool, a basketball court, tennis court, volleyball, a catch and release pond, kayaking, and more. Everything was absolutely beautiful! I would love to go back and see it in the Fall with all of the leaves changing colors. Can you imagine how breathtaking that would be?
This suspension bridge really was awesome. I planned to just take this photo and the next one, but of course, Adam talked me into walking across it. I was in complete panic mode the entire time and broke out into a complete sweat. By the time I got off, my hands were shaking and my body was pumping some major adrenaline!
It was quite the adventure to say the least. I don’t care to walk across another suspension bridge for as long as I live, but I can definitely say, “I’ve done it.”Tee I wore for zip lining/hiking That night, we had dinner reservations at the lodge. If you make reservations, you have to email them at least 24 hours before your visit to make your dinner selections. Adam and I both chose the filet and it was delicious!! I feel so bad that I did not get any pictures of our dinner. We were chatting about the day and honestly, I forgot about being a blogger and was just enjoying the moment. As delicious as the filet was, I have to say that the dessert was even better! We had a creamsickle cake + chocolate lava cake. Both were to die for!! Sweater – Jeans
Banning Mills was a great weekend trip! We definitely could have stayed longer since there was so much to do, but we love short, weekend getaways. There were a lot of couples staying for the weekend, and some families that just came to spend the day. So, if you’re close by, a day trip might be something to look into as well. We also found out that a lot of companies book retreats there, which I think would be so fun!
All of the staff were friendly, accommodating, and made our trip one to remember. We have both said that we would love to go back with some of our friends and family and zip line again. So I guess it’s pretty obvious that I recommend making the trip to Banning Mills. You’ll love the zip lining and everything else that Banning Mills has to offer. Thank you again Banning Mills for having us! 🙂
