It’s time for another recent reads roundup, and in today’s post, I’m sharing 9 Thrillers to read this Fall. (Plus 2 Romances I also enjoyed). Keep reading for a short blurb about each one and to see what I’m reading next…
Thrillers to Read this Fall
The Girl Before: I recently saw that this is going to be a movie, and I can see why. I really enjoyed this book. It is told from the perspectives of Jane & Emma. Without giving away too much, each are women who have been through some type of trauma and are looking for a fresh start in a new home. But the new home and the home’s owner is very different from anything they imagined.
The Escape Room: The was unlike a lot of the books I have read recently. It takes you headfirst into the world of finance, which I thought it was super interesting to read/learn about. Basically, 4 coworkers are trapped in an elevator escape room and trying to make it out alive. Throughout the book, there are flashbacks to the days/years leading up to present day in the elevator.
The First Mistake: I loved The Other Women by Sandie Jones. I liked this book too, but in my opinion The Other Woman was better. Alice, remarried after the death of her first husband, loves her life yet still suffers from a lot of anxiety over the ending of her first marriage. When her second husband starts acting suspicious and disappearing for stretches of time, Alice confides in her best friend, Beth. But there’s more to Beth than meets the eye.
The Silent Patient: One night, a famous painter shoots her husband, and then never says another word. The only clue to her violent crime is a self-portrait she painted before the murder that she titled Alcestis, a nod to a Greek myth. This one has a good twist!
Paranoid: Twenty years ago, a late night name between friends goes horribly wrong. Rachel, thinking she was shooting a soft pellet air gun, kills her half-brother Luke. Now, with her 20 year class reunion coming up, other class members are being killed and Rachel feels like someone is watching her. After all those years, the truth finally comes out.
Leave No Trace: This one totally has The Silent Patient vibes. Ten years ago, a boy and his dad went camping in the woods… and never returned. When the boy is caught for attempted robbery, he is taken to a psychiatric facility, where he refuses to communicate with anyone but Maya, a language therapist.
Then She Was Gone: This one is dark, twisty, sad, and yet still pulls on your heartstrings at times. While you see a lot of things coming, there are still some twists along the way. I really liked this one!
The Rumor: LOVED THIS BOOK! There’s a rumor that a woman who committed a murder as a child is now living under a new identity in Joanna’s town. Suddenly, Joanna is caught up in spreading the rumors and finding herself, and her son, in danger. This one has a shocking twist!
I Am Watching You: Told from multiple viewpoints, a woman on a train witnesses two teenage girls flirting with two men recently out of prison. The next day, one of the girls is missing. I zipped through this one in two days. I thought the book as a whole was really good, but the ending didn’t really live up to the rest of the book in my opinion. Yes, there’s a twist you don’t see coming, but the ending just felt kind of rushed to me.
Romances
99 Percent Mine: This is a quick, sweet read. (I finished it in one day at the beach). Darcy & Tom have always had something between them, and now, while repairing a house together, they come face to face with a lot of unresolved feelings.
The Unhoneymooners: Olive’s twin sister Amelia has always been lucky. She even won a trip to Hawaii for her honeymoon! But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning, except for Olive & her new brother-in-law, Ethan, somehow the two of them end up in Hawaii pretending to be the newlyweds. If you’ve never read a Christina Lauren book, start with this one!
