THRILLERS TO ADD TO YOUR 2022 TBR LIST

They Wish They Were Us

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ / 5 stars

At Gold Coast Prep, Jill and her friends are finally seniors. The “Players,” Jill’s elite friend group behave like a fraternity and run underclassmen through a series of initiation challenges. It’s their turn to be in charge, and she’s determined that this year will be different.

But 3 years ago, initiation night went terribly wrong, and her best friend Shay didn’t survive the night. Now, Shay’s murderer is claiming innocence and Jill wants to know the truth of what really happened that night.

The characters sucked me in immediately and the book kept me guessing. Gossip Girl vibes with a murder mystery!

A Flicker In the Dark

Chloe Davis’ father is in prison for the murder of six teenage girls that occurred when Chloe was only 12 years old. Twenty years later, it’s happening again and Chloe feels a daunting sense of déjà vu. She may be the only one who can uncover the truth, but at what cost?

This one had a little bit of a slow start for me, but around Chapter 10 it picked up and got really interesting. At that point, I couldn’t put it down. Once the twists started, they came fast and I was constantly trying to figure out the ending. I would think I had it figured out, and then it would surprise me again! This is a 5 star for me and I would definitely read more books by this author.

One Of Us Is Dead

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ / 5 stars

Pub date: April 26, 2022

Set in Buckhead, Georgia, this book is centered on 4 wealthy housewives and their hairstylist. Shannon, former queen bee, has been dumped by her husband and replaced by Crystal. Crystal, a country girl from Texas, is doing her best to fit in and find her place. Karen, a real estate mogul and mom is struggling in her marriage. Olivia, a manipulative mean girl, wants to be the new queen bee and she will stop at nothing to get there. Jenny, their hairstylist, knows all their secrets, but quietly blends into the background while pampering the women and playing peacekeeper. And one of them is dead…

This book is full of juicy secrets, designer clothing, and catty quips. I loved every second of it. It was like watching a combination of The Real Housewives + Big Little Lies. And even better, I never saw the ending coming! This is one of my favorite recent reads.

Her Perfect Secret

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ / 5 stars

Emily, a psychologist, treated 8 year old Tom after he witnessed the murder of his father. She helped him come to terms with what happened that night and his statement put his mother in prison. 15 years later, Emily’s daughter Joni introduces Emily to her fiancé, Michael. But Michael looks so much like Tom that it takes Emily’s breath away. Could it be Tom? Why does he say his name is Michael? Is he here to seek revenge for Emily’s role in his mother going to prison?

What follows is a thriller filled with lots of twists and turns. I could feel something building early on, but it still managed to surprise me. While I wasn’t racing to finish this one, I enjoyed it overall and would read more by this author.

ROMANCES TO ADD TO YOUR 2022 TBR LIST

The Dachshund Wears Prada

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ / 5 Stars

Pub date: May 3, 2022

Isla is a social media guru, until one small mistake brings her career crashing down. Now she finds herself as a pseudo-mom to her sister Dani, and a dog sitter to one of New York’s most reclusive (and most eligible) bachelors.

Theo, after suffering tragic events as a child, was burned by the media. He hates the public eye, and keeps himself hidden away from people and tucked into his work. He’s built walls around his heart to never again be hurt by people leaving him or trying use his family name.

While caring for his rambunctious, and often devious, dachshund, Isla starts a secret Instagram account called “The Dachshund Wears Prada” where she shares the ridiculous life of 5th Avenue’s most prestigious pets. The account is a wild success and Isla starts to dream of her next business move. But just as Isla begins to chip away at the walls around Theo’s heart, sharing his personal world with thousands of people has the opposite effect.

This book was so cute! I loved the contrast of the characters. Where Theo is dark and stormy, Isla is sunshine and light. I liked watching their walls come down and see them find both themselves and each other. I also really enjoyed how fun it was to read – doggie day spas, blowouts, and weekly playdates. Honestly, I couldn’t get enough! It’s the first in a series and I already can’t wait to read the next one.

The Rebound

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ / 5 stars

Pub date: February 14, 2022

Abby Reynolds lost her fiancé, her fancy New York job, and her apartment all in a matter of weeks. She heads home to Ireland to stay with her sister Louise and brother-in-law while she puts her life back together and figures out what she’s doing next. When a handsome stranger drives her home, it seems like her luck is looking up. But as it turns out, he isn’t a stranger at all. He’s her next door neighbor/childhood best friend, Luke Bailey, and he is all grown up!

I loved all the characters in this book. The banter between not only Abby and Luke, but also Rory and Sinead, Rory and Abby, Abby and Louise, Abby & Luke’s parents, etc. was so fun to read! The dialogue had me giggling out loud multiple times. It’s not often that I enjoy the side characters just as much as the main characters, but I did in this book. I also really liked seeing Abby and Louise’s relationship grow, and them learn to love each other for exactly who they are. I can’t wait to read more by this author!
