5 STAR BOOKS TO READ THIS SUMMER

Every Summer After

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ / 5 stars

YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK. Omg. One of my top favorites ever!!! If you liked “The Light We Lost” (Jill Santopolo) or “Love and Other Words” (Christina Lauren) you will be obsessed with this one too! 😍😍😍😍

Percy’s family buys a lakeside cottage in a sleepy Summer town when she’s thirteen. 🏡 Next door is Sam and Charlie, two brothers full of mischief and fun. Percy and Sam quickly become inseparable and spend every Summer and holiday together. ☀️ But as they get older, their friendship turns into something more. ❤️

Now Percy is headed back to where it all began. She’s going to see Sam for the first time in twelve years and she’s not sure if her heart is ready. The last time she saw him everything fell apart because of a huge secret that stood between them. 💔 But deep in her bones, she knows she never got over her “Summer boy.”

This is such an epic love story. 😍 It’s told in alternating timelines shifting between now and Summers past which I really enjoyed. Honestly, I loved everything about the book. I cared about all of the characters and friendships, and I didn’t want it to end. Read it. You won’t be disappointed. And then message me so I can talk about it some more! 😂😍 Here’s hoping we get Charlie’s story next. 🙏🏼

Can’t Look Away

Molly Diamond, an aspiring writer, meets Jake Danner, an aspiring musician, and her life is never the same. They immediately fall head over heels in love. But their love is forever being tested by Jake’s meddling ex, Sisi, the pressures of fame, and lack of communication.

Years later, Molly is married to Hunter. They live in Flynn Cove, a ritzy suburb, with their daughter Stella. Although happy, Molly often thinks of Jake and the life she left behind. In Flynn Cove, Molly has trouble making friends, but one day meets a woman named Sabrina who she instantly connects with. Weeks later, Sabrina invites Molly and Hunter over to meet her husband, who turns out to be… Jake Danner. Feelings resurface, relationships are tested, and behind it all is Sabrina who has ulterior motives for seeking a friendship with Molly.

The tension filled ride of this book had me on EDGE.. in the best way possible! I’m a big fan of Lovering and really enjoyed the alternating timeline and viewpoints. I was dying to see how everything was going to play out and was so conflicted in my feelings of what I wanted to happen. I loved every second of this book!

Notes On Your Sudden Disappearance

Sally, a soon to be eighth grader, idolizes her older sister Kathy. The summer before eighth grade is filled with family vacations and trips to the local pool to spy on Billy Barnes, the boy that Kathy has a crush on. Before the summer ends, Kathy and Billy are an item and Sally is beginning to feel left behind. Soon after that, Kathy dies in a car accident, leaving Billy and Sally devastated. No one understands their grief like each other, and they will forever be tied to each other because of it.

This book explores love, grief, and life after tragedy. It was heartbreaking, poignant, and even funny at times. It was relatable for anyone who has experienced grief, and while it was sad, it was also hopeful. I really enjoyed Espach’s writing style and thought that the ending was beautiful.

Thank you to Henry Holt and Company & NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Fool Me Once

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️/ 5 Stars

Lee Stoner is a mess. Not professionally, professionally she is a total boss babe on a mission to get her beloved Green Machine Bill passed and overhaul the state of Texas. But personally, a total mess. After four major heartbreaks, Lee no longer believes in love or happy endings. She actually goes out of her way to self-sabotage before anyone can hurt her like her father did (her first major heartbreak).

But her fourth major heartbreak, Ben Laderman is her new work partner & they must work together to get Lee’s bill passed. Lee quickly finds out that she actually broke Ben’s heart too, and neither of them fully recovered. But the past has to stay in the past for them to succeed professionally. Which would be a lot easier if Lee wasn’t feeling all these feelings…

Oh my goodness, talk about swoon-worthy! Unrequited love/second chance romances get me every time. What makes Fool Me Once stand out from other books in these tropes is the witty banter. I loved the back and forth between Ben & Lee and devoured this book in two days. This is my favorite romcom I’ve read recently & Ashley Winstead is becoming an auto-read author for me!

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing & NetGalley for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Things We Never Got Over

I LOVED this book! Disclaimer before I share more: this one was VERY steamy and had a LOT of language (like sailor level). BUT I loved the characters, the friendships, the plot, the fun chapter titles.. basically all of it. 👌🏼

Naomi just left her fiancé at the alter because her evil twin Tina texted her saying she was in trouble. When Naomi arrives in Knockemout, her sister steals Naomi’s car, phone, laptop, and leaves her 11 year old daughter Waylay behind for Naomi to take care of. 😳

Knox Morgan doesn’t do relationships. And he certainly isn’t interested in someone with a lot of baggage like Naomi. Yet somehow, he can’t stay away from her and he can’t help but try to fix the messes she keeps getting herself into. But somewhere between fixing all her problems, Naomi begins to fix all the broken places in Knox’s heart too. ❤️

The swoon factor was 💯 & I can’t wait for the next books in this series. Here’s hoping we get Sloane & Lucian’s story next! 🤞🏼

Mr. Wrong Number

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ / 5 stars

Oh my goodness. I absolutely LOVED this book and devoured it in 2 sittings. All the way through, I kept getting “You’ve Got Mail” vibes, which is my all-time favorite movie, and then toward the end of the book, Painter quoted it!! “It was like that line in You’ve Got Mail. ‘All this nothing has meant more to me than so many somethings.’” Cue the heart eyes.

Painter also referenced “Crazy, Stupid, Love” a couple times which is another one of my top favorite movies! So how could I not love this one? Witty banter is my book weakness and Mr. Wrong Number is full of witty banter and laugh out loud moments. I finished this on May 1st, which set this month’s reading bar pretty dang high. Have you read it yet?
