THRILLERS/SUSPENSE
The Marriage Lie – Iris has the perfect life with the perfect husband until a plane crash changes everything. This book started fast and drew me in quickly, then the middle kind of dragged, but the last few chapters picked up the pace again and there were so many twists!
The Intended Victim – Remi’s dad died 5 years ago trying to save her from a serial killer. Now, the killer is back and murdering women who look like Remi. Ash, her one time fiancé, moves in to keep her safe and help track down the killer. No crazy twists, but this one was very reminiscent of a Nora Roberts book. If you enjoy those, you’ll enjoy this one.
The Break Down – One night, during a terrible storm, Cass sees a car pulled over on a dark road. She has a bad feeling about it so she doesn’t stay to help. The next day, she finds out that the woman in the car was murdered. Suddenly, Cass has a hard time remembering things and becomes consumed with her guilt. When she starts to get disturbing phone calls, she can’t shake the feeling that the killer is watching her. But can she trust her own mind? I loved Behind Closed Doors & Bring Me Back by B.A. Paris so I was super excited to read this one. In my opinion, Behind Closed Doors & Bring Me Back are better. This one was a little predictable and dragged some in the middle, but it did have a satisfying conclusion.
Single – Darcy meets handsome surgeon George when he saves her son from an asthma attack. They quickly become close, and before Darcy knows it, she and her two boys are moving in with George and his daughter. But soon, a woman from George’s past threatens to ruin everything. This is technically a psychological thriller, but it read a lot like a Liane Moriarty book to me. If you like her books, you’ll like this one.
Behind Her Eyes – Louise, a single mom, meets David at a bar one afternoon. They have a great connection, but she later finds out he’s married, AND her new boss. Shortly after, she bumps into his wife Adele and the two form a weird friendship. But the more Adele confides in Louise, the more it seems that there is something very wrong in their marriage. Louise doesn’t know who to trust and the ending is one you WON’T see coming. This is a psychological thriller with supernatural elements. I have never read a book like this, but flew through it because I had to know what was really going on! The ending was shocking.
Verity – Verity, a famous author of a well-known book series, recently had an accident and is unable to complete her book contract. Tragedy is no stranger to Verity and her husband Jeremy, as they lost their twin daughters to tragic accidents over the last year. Lowen is hired to finish the last books in the series, but must travel to Verity’s home to go through her office, read over outlines, etc. She quickly falls for Jeremy, and also realizes that everything is not as it seems in Verity’s home. Nor does Jeremy know everything about his wife… This is a Colleen Hoover book, but definitely not her typical genre. It is MUCH darker. Parts of this were very disturbing and really hard for me to read, but WOW what a story line! It sucked me in immediately and I finished this book in about a day and a half. While parts of it were very disturbing, it is easily my favorite recent read in this category.
ROMANCE
It Ends With Us – Lily’s relationship with Ryle seems perfect but she’ll never be able to forget Atlas, a homeless boy she met when she was only a teenager. Now, Atlas is back and things with Ryle aren’t as perfect as she once thought. This was the first Colleen Hoover book that I read, and I was immediately hooked. Her writing style really makes you feel for and care about every character. I was so invested! **Before reading, you should know that this book has scenes of abuse.
The Happy Ever After Playlist – I started this one at midnight one night hoping to make myself sleepy, and the next thing I knew, it was 3AM. I couldn’t put it down, and finished it the next morning. This is the follow up book to The Friend Zone. You don’t have to read The Friend Zone first, but I highly recommend it because this one will mean so much more to you! Sloan has been living in what she calls the “in-between” for two years. Then one day while trying to rescue a dog from traffic, he jumps through her open sunroof and reminds her how to live again. She finally contacts the dog’s owner, Jason, and the two of them have an instant connection. But Jason is a musician, about to have his big break, and Sloan isn’t sure if she can handle everything that comes with dating Jason. I can’t give a ton away without also giving away The Friend Zone, but read both of these! You won’t regret it.
The Friend Zone – Here’s a quick synopsis of this that I shared in a previous post: While planning her best friend’s wedding, Kristen falls in love with the best man, Josh. But, secrets about infertility plays a huge role in Kristen keeping Josh at arms length. She wants the best for him and she doesn’t know if that’s her. This one was sweet, funny, steamy, and heartbreaking all at the same time. It was very reminiscent of a Christina Lauren book, so if you’re a fan of hers, you’ll love Abby Jimenez’s debut novel.
Regretting You – Morgan wants to make sure her daughter doesn’t make the same mistakes she did as a teenager. Clara doesn’t want to turn into her “predictable” mother. Their once fragile relationship is now on the brink of destruction after Chris (Morgan’s husband/Clara’s father) is involved in a tragic car accident. Multiple circumstances surround the accident, leaving Clara & Morgan to grapple with loss, betrayal, and moving forward after tragedy. I didn’t think I would like this one, but oh it was SO good! Colleen Hoover is amazing!
Ooo thr Intended Victim is new to me but now I want to read it.
Everyone keeps talking about what an emptional wreck The Happy Ever Playlist leaves them!
